In February 2025 I visited Painswick, known as the “Queen of the Cotswolds.” It offers a perfect blend of history, texture, and natural beauty. The village’s honey-colored stone cottages, narrow streets, and rolling countryside create timeless compositions, especially in soft morning or golden-hour light. St. Mary’s Churchyard, with its iconic 99 sculpted yew trees, provides striking contrasts of shape and shadow. Also, it was great fun capturing the intimate charm of centuries-old unique “donkey doors.” In the past donkeys used to carry heavy loads of supplies and would carry them into buildings.
